A once-shy girl who found her voice through writing.
Lisa Caprelli is a Latina children's author, keynote speaker, songwriter, and creator of Unicorn Jazz®. Her stories help children see that being different is not something to hide. It is something to understand, celebrate, and share.
With a B.S. in Social Psychology and more than 27 years of experience in communications, branding, and human behavior, Lisa blends heart and learning into programs children understand. Her 23+ books in English and Spanish explore confidence, empathy, friendship, creativity, grief, kindness, and belonging.

Lisa's story did not begin in children's publishing. It moved through live radio, brand storytelling, public relations, business leadership, and interviews with hundreds of people. Her 2.5-year journey learning from 13 entrepreneurs became Skip a Stepand helped point her toward the purpose-filled world she created for children in 2018.

Who can help fund a visit?
Many schools combine more than one source. Your school or district makes the final decision about allowable costs, but Lisa's team can help you prepare the information needed to ask.
PTA or PTO
Parent groups often sponsor assemblies, author visits, literacy events, and student enrichment experiences.
School or district programs
Ask about literacy, SEL or PBIS, school climate, student wellness, arts, cultural enrichment, or family engagement budgets.
Title I or Title IV-A, with approval
A visit may be considered when it supports a documented literacy need or an approved well-rounded or safe-and-healthy-students goal.
California Prop 28
Music, theatre, or other eligible arts-instruction components may be considered. A general literacy or SEL assembly does not automatically qualify.
Foundations and grants
Education foundations, literacy grants, arts grants, and local nonprofit partners may help sponsor a school visit.
Community sponsors
Local businesses, service clubs, donors, and families can help underwrite an experience for one school or an entire community.
Funding availability and allowable uses are determined by each school or district and vary by location, approved plans, procurement rules, grant requirements, and school year. Lisa Caprelli and Unicorn Jazz® cannot guarantee approval from any funding source.

Which grade levels are a good fit?
Programs are available for PreK through grade 6. Lisa's team can shape the language, story, participation, and pacing for your grade bands.
Can the visit connect with our school's goals?
Yes. Share your literacy, SEL, PBIS, belonging, kindness, creativity, or family engagement goals. The team will discuss the best story and format for your students.
How long is an assembly?
Length and format are planned around student ages, audience size, grade bands, and your bell schedule. Tell us what your day looks like and we will explore what fits.
Can we include books or classroom resources?
Yes. Ask about signed books, schoolwide reading opportunities, teacher packets, songs, activities, and low-prep follow-up resources.
Does Lisa travel outside California?
Yes. Lisa accepts school inquiries city by city. Travel, timing, and multi-school opportunities can be discussed with the booking team.
Does one assembly replace our SEL or PBIS work?
No single event replaces consistent school culture work. Lisa's visit is designed to reinforce your language, create a memorable shared experience, and give educators useful ways to continue the conversation.
